Alyssa Healy wreaks havoc in farewell ODI vs India, smashes 98-ball 158 before bizarre dismissal

Australia’s outgoing ODI captain Alyssa Healy went berserk in her farewell appearance in international cricket. Alyssa scored a record-breaking 158 against Harmanpreet Kaur-led India in the third and final ODI of the series at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. 

Alyssa breaks ex-England batter’s two-decade-old record

Alyssa's 158 off 98 deliveries is the highest ODI score by a batter against India in the format. The previous best belonged to England's Claire Taylor who scored an unbeaten 156 off 151 balls against Mithali Raj-led India at Lord's Cricket Ground in 2006.

This was Alyssa's second-highest ODI score. It is also the third-highest ODI score by an Australia. In 2022, Alyssa had scored 170 runs against England. The top spot belongs to Belinda Clark who scored an unbeaten 229 against Denmark in ODI World Cup 1997 clash.

Steady start and a blazing finish

On March 1, 2026, Harmanpreet won the toss and put Australia to bat first. After Phoebe Litchfield fell cheaply to Kashvee Gautam, Alyssa hit Renuka Singh for three fours in an over. Alyssa and Georgia Voll exploited the fielding restrictions. On the first ball of the 18th over, the skipper got to her fifty from 49 balls. On the other end, Georgia reached her half-century from 42 balls. The partnership was broken by Sneh Rana in the 22nd over with Georgia's wicket. She scored 62 runs from 52 balls.

In the middle overs, she was joined by Beth Mooney. They did not let the tempo fall. In the 31st over, Alyssa raced to her eighth ODI century from 79 balls. In the next over, she hit Shree Charani for four fours and a six. In no time, she completed her 150 from 95 balls.

Her knock came to an abrupt end in the 27th over. Sneh bowled a high full toss. Alyssa went for a reverse sweep and missed a straight delivery. She got bowled for a 98-ball 158. Her knock was laced with 27 fours and a couple of sixes. Australia were 281/2 in the 37th over when she departed.

Alyssa’s ODI numbers

Alyssa retires as Australia's fifth-highest ODI run-scorer. From 126 ODIs, she scored 3,777 runs at an average of 37.02, featuring eight centuries and 19 fifties. She is the only batter among Australia's top 10 ODI run-scorer with a strike rate over 100.
