In a series of interesting updates, Chennai Super Kings's (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has spilled some beans on the vacant head coach position at the franchise. Former CSK head coach Stephen Fleming stepped down from the role in July 2026 and later joined England as the Test coach.
CSK's coaching dilemma
Currently, CSK are yet to reveal who will succeed Fleming, but the Chennai-based side has already narrowed down the profile it wants for the role. Viswanathan has confirmed that the Yellow Army will look beyond India for their next head coach, with an overseas candidate set to take charge of the five-time IPL champions.

In interaction with Cricbuzz, Kasi revealed that he and CSK whole-time director Rupa Gurunath will finalise the side's new tactician after hosting a discussion with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and former captain MS Dhoni in the coming days. The new coach will then have a say in the team's future signings.
"We have not started applying our minds on this (signing players in a trade deal). First, we will have a coach. We have got calls from many interested candidates. We will sit and finalise," said Kasi.
Brendon McCullum to become next CSK head coach?
Brendon McCullum has emerged as a potential candidate to take over the coaching duties at CSK after Fleming's departure. The former New Zealand captain already has good amount of IPL experience, having previously coached Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), while he is currently in charge of England's white-ball setup.
Michael Hussey has also emerged as one of the possible candidates to fill the vacant position. The former Australia international is currently serves as CSK's batting coach.
