While his previous IPL stint with the Punjab Kings in 2023 was relatively modest—totaling 119 runs across six matches—his current form in the BBL suggests he is ready to play a much more significant role under the leadership of the Chennai franchise.

During the chase against Brisbane Heat, Short took command of the innings with an explosive display of power hitting. His aggression kept the Strikers in the hunt, though the team was ultimately bowled out for 172 in the final over.
