In a series of big events, Ishan Kishan-led East Zone have taken a big step towards a win in their first game of the Duleep Trophy 2026. After piling up 467 runs in their first innings, East Zone bundled out North East Zone for just 111 runs and enforced the follow-on. Abhijit Sarkar starred with the ball, finishing the innings with the figures of 5/20 from 9.5 overs. North East Zone then reached 7/0 in their second innings and still need another 349 runs to avoid an innings loss.

North Zone endured a dramatic collapse, losing their final eight wickets for only 39 runs to slip from 72/2 to 111 all out. Only five batters managed to record double figures, with opener Arpit Bhaterwara top-scoring with 32 runs. Abhijit Sarkar initiated the collapse by clinching four of his five wickets in his last seven deliveries.

East Zone used five bowlers, with Mohammed Shami the only one to go wicketless after leaking 36 runs from nine overs. Star left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed also picked three wickets, while Mukesh Kumar and Anukul Roy took one each.
What happened in the East Zone's innings?
Earlier, East Zone managed to post a massive total of 467, powered by Shahbaz Ahmed's amazing 167 runs. Resuming Day 2 from 355/6, the Ishan Kishan-led side added 112 runs before being bundled out on 467. Anukul Roy scored 37 while Mohammed Shami contributed 11 runs.
Shahbaz played a total of 244 balls during his impressive knock, hitting 17 fours and four sixes. Sudip Kumar Gharami had also played a big rile with a fine 146 on the first day. For North East Zone, Akash Choudhary and Pheiroijam Jotin were the best bowlers with three wickets each.
