In a series of interesting events, Afghanistan announced their squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India on Monday, August 24. Afghanistan will lock horns against India in three T20I matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi next month. It will be the first series for Ibrahim Zadran leading Afghanistan in the shortest format of the game.
Perfect blend of youth and experience
However, the squad also includes veteran players like Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rahamanullah Gurbaz. The squad is a perfect mix of youth and experience to bring the best out of the playing XI. Sadly there was no spot for star Mumbai Indians (MI) spinner Allah Ghazanfar in the squad.

New chapter for Ibrahim Zadran
Ibrahim Zadran is set to kick off a new chapter in his international career when Afghanistan face India in the upcoming T20I assignment against India. It will be his maiden bilateral series since taking over the leadership duties from Rashid Khan in the format, who stepped down after Afghanistan endured an early exit from the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Asian side have also been away from T20I action since February 19.
The three-match T20I series will begin on September 13, followed by the second and third games on September 15 and 17, respectively. While all three games will be played in Delhi, Afghanistan will act as the home side for the series.
