England drop no.1 ranked T20I and ODI bowler from white-ball squads against West Indies, new captain and coach recall former MI pacer
Sophie Ecclestone of England walks off after she was lbw off the bowling of Darcie Brown of Australia during game one of the Women's Ashes ODI series at Manuka Oval on February 03, 2022 in Canberra, Australia.

Story Highlights:

Head coach Charlotte Edwards said that Sophie Ecclestone isn't 100 per cent fit.

Pacer Issy Wong has made a comeback on the back of performances in domestic cricket.

Left-arm pacer Mahika Gaura has been picked for ODIs only.

England Cricket Board (ECB) have announced squad for T20I and ODI series against England starting May 21. No.1 ranked bowler in women's ODIs and T20Is, left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone has been dropped from the side despite being fit as she hasn't played domestic cricket since her knee injury.

On the day of squad announcement, Ecclestone  scored a fifty and took a wicket for Lacashire against Warwickshire in ECB's Women's One-Day Cup 2025.

New skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt will lead the side. Another notable ommission is Maia Bouchier who averages 37.07 in ODIs and 23.29 in T20Is. England selectors have recalled pacer Issy Wong. The 23-year-old pacer has played four ODIs and taken as many wickets. In T20Is, she has nine scalps from 12 games.

"Following her knee injury, Sophie Ecclestone is physically not quite at 100% yet," said head coach Charlotte Edwards who took up the role earlier this year. "She's been rehabbing and working hard but she's only just got back on the park for Lancashire so she doesn't have enough cricket under her belt to be ready for this series.

"All-rounders Freya Kemp (back) and Danielle Gibson (stress fracture) are both unavailable due to injury. Lauren Filer's return from a knee injury continues positively and she will continue to be reviewed.

"Maia Bouchier misses out having been a part of the Ashes series, Maia's talent is there for all to see and the challenge to her is to go and make consistent match-winning contributions for Hampshire in domestic cricket. It's the same for any player who'd disappointed to not be a part of these squads."

Meanwile, Alice Davidson-Richards and Emma Lamb have made a comeback in the ODI squad following good run in the domestic One Day Cup. Experienced batter Tammy Beaumont and Linsey Smith have earned spots in both the formats. The left-arm pacer Mahika Gaur will only be part of the ODI series.
