Johannesburg Super Kings' (JSK) captain Faf du Plessis revealed that he took inspiration from MS Dhoni during the side's thrilling Super Over clash against Durban's Super Giants in SA20. With the Super Giants requiring just one run to win on the final delivery, JSK wicketkeeper Donovan Ferreira removed one of his gloves. Simon Harmer ended up missing Wiaan Mulder's ball completely and this allowed Ferreira to make a pinpoint throw that resulted in Eathan Bosch being run-out.
JSK held their nerve in the Super Over
This dismissal took the game into the Super Over where JSK went on to defend the target of 9 and win the match in dramatic fashion. Following the conclusion of the game, Du Plessis revealed that he had drawn inspiration from MS Dhoni's famous run-out against Bangladesh in the 2016 T20 World Cup and that is why had asked Mulder to bowl a short delivery across the batter so that he would likely end up missing it.
“I remember there was a game a long time ago, when MS Dhoni was standing behind the stumps for India. I think it was against Bangladesh in a World Cup, and I remember the guy bowling almost like a cut ball across him… And there was this memory in the back of my head. So, I just told him (Mulder), just go short, across him, and hopefully we get a wicket. I was not banking on a run out. So, we are bowling for run outs now!" du Plessis said at the post-match press-confereence.

Du Plessis was describing the incident where Dhoni had also taken his glove off and had ran out Mustafizur Rahman on the final delivery of the innings, resulting in Bangladesh losing the match by one run. The only difference in the two dismissals was that while Dhoni ran to hit the stumps before Mustafizur could complete the run, Ferreira made a direct-hit.
JSK on top of the points table
Meanwhile, the victory saw JSK reach the top of the SA20 standings with 13 points. They have won all three of their opening matches and look to be in red-hot form. On the other hand, the Super Giants are currently at the third position with six points from four games. JSK will be aiming to maintain their formas they face Sunrisers Eastern Cape on January 3 while the Super Giants will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat in their next fixture that will be against the Pretoria Capitals on the same date.
