India's young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi's stay at the crease was short as he departed for a 14-ball 20 cameo in the second Youth Test between India Under-19 and England Under-19. On Day 2 of the game, Young Lions' Ekansh Singh picked up where he left off and scored 117. He had support from James Minto who missed his half-century. Their partnership helped the hosts cross the 300-run mark. Ahead of Day 3, skipper Ayush Mhatre looks settled as the visitors trail by 258 runs after a rain-affected Day 2.

Ekansh reaches century in style

England started from an overnight score of 229/7. Ekansh was not afraid to go for boundaries early on in the innings. Soon, rain interrupted play and an early lunch was taken. When play resumed, the partnership for the eighth wicket continued to grow. Ekansh reached his century with a six off Naman Pushpak in the 73rd over. He took 134 deliveries to reach the milestone.

Partnership-breaker Pushpak

The partnership was broken by Pushpak in the 79th over. Minto was caught and bowled for 46 off 89 deliveries, featuring six fours and a six. They shared a crucial 137-run partnership for the eighth wicket.  In his next over, Pushpak was dismissed for a seven-ball duck. Ekansh was the last to fall. He became Vihaan Malhotra's only victim in the innings. His knock of 117 from 155 deliveries was studded with 14 fours and three sixes. He helped England post 309 on the board. Apart from him, captain and wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew crossed the fifty-run mark on Day 1.

Suryavanshi departs early

In reply, Suryavanshi took on Green in the second over of the innings. The southpaw hit him for a four and a six. Mhatre hit a few boundaries as well. On the first ball of the fifth over, Suryavanshi hit another six. But, he took one chance too many. Green had his revenge as he got the opener caught by AM French.

Rain interrupts again, Mhatre gets good start

Malhotra walked in to bat at 37/1. He faced three deliveries before rain interrupted play. After resumption, only 19 deliveries were bowled as rain stopped play again. After the day's play was called off, India U19 were 51/1, trailing by 258 runs. Mhatre is batting on 24 runs from 26 deliveries. On the other end, Malhotra scored six runs from 14 balls.
