As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) firms up the plans for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027, the auction is expected to take place on 28 October in Kochi. According to reports, while Mumbai and Vadodara have returned to the venue plans, Varanasi could be taking one of the three sports for the first time.
Kochi to host 2027 WPL Auction? Mumbai, Vadodara return as venues with Varanasi in contention
The tournament itself is planned for the January-February window. Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium is set to return as a host venue. Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium is also expected to feature again, while the new stadium in Varanasi remains under consideration for a third hosting slot, subject to readiness and a BCCI inspection. A source told Sportstar:
“The BCCI team will inspect whether the venue in Varanasi can be ready by then and, accordingly, a call will be taken on hosting matches there. For now, it’s Mumbai and Vadodara.”
The scheduling places the league close to the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy, which India will host from mid-February 2027. Some of the same venues, including those in Mumbai and Vadodara, are earmarked for both events. The plans were discussed at a recent WPL Governing Council meeting.
The WPL has been held at two venues in previous seasons, while the 2025 edition was exceptional as it involved four cities. As per the aforementioned source, if Varanasi is finalised, it can be the home ground for the UP Warriorz.
