Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Mahipal Lomror is set to make his County Championship debut after securing a deal with Surrey. The 26-year-old left-handed batter and spinner is slated to fly out to England on August 16 following what he characterised as a sudden, out-of-the-blue offer.

The unexpected turn of events began on August 8, when Surrey’s director of cricket, Alec Stewart, personally reached out to recruit him for a middle-order role that could also offer some left-arm spin depth. Lomror was actually preparing to board a flight to South Africa the following day for a Mumbai Indians development initiative, but he promptly altered his travel plans once Surrey came calling.

While Lomror remains uncertain about how he caught the English club's attention, he speculates that the Mumbai Indians' existing partnership with Surrey in The Hundred may have paved the way for the recommendation. Viewing the stint as a major stepping stone, the young cricketer expressed enthusiasm about sharing the dressing room with seasoned international players and sharpening his skill set on the English circuit.
Mahipal Lomror's impressive track record
Across 63 red-ball appearances, the 26-year-old boasts an impressive record of 3,836 first-class runs at an average of 42.62, featuring 10 centuries, highlighted by a stunning triple-hundred against Uttarakhand in the 2024–25 season, and 17 fifties. His resume also includes 40 IPL outings spanning stints with the Rajasthan Royals, RCB, and MI, where he notably served as a crucial middle-order spin hitter during RCB’s dramatic playoff push in 2024.
