MCA has now revealed reason behind Prithvi Shaw's exclusion

Prithvi Shaw was snubbed from Mumbai's squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy has generated a lot of buzz. While surprising to some, his omission is not entirely unexpected given his recent struggles in domestic cricket. Prithvi Shaw was previously dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad just two months ago, and this exclusion from the Vijay Hazare Trophy follows a similar pattern.

The star batter was left frustrated with his exclusion from Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is set to start from December 21. After his omission, he took to social media and bluntly shared his impressive List A statistics on his Instagram story.

“Tell me, God, what more do I have to see… If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I'm not good enough… but I will keep my faith in you, and hopefully people believe in me still… because I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram,” Prithvi's Instagram story read.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has also reacted to Mumbai batter's snub and revealed the reason behind his exclusion. While his career appears to be facing challenges, the MCA has revealed that fitness and discipline concerns are the factors hindering his progress.

Prithvi was also part of Mumbai's triumphant campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 but couldn't make any impact. Despite Mumbai's successful title win, Shaw struggled to click with the bat. In nine innings, he failed to reach 200 runs, averaging below 25 and consistently struggling to perform against the new ball.

“The fitness concern is there, but the performance is also not there currently. He needs to work on his fitness, discipline, and performance. The main issue is the fitness. You see the matches. You get the image, right? Just by looking at his frame, the fitness issues are there for everyone to see. We hope he works on these issues and makes a strong comeback. We all know his talent. It is just about him putting in the hard yards,” an MCA source was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Ajinkya Rahane has been excluded from the squad as he has requested a break from the MCA due to personal reasons. Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur are among the key players included in Mumbai's squad for the upcoming 50-over domestic tournament.
