Australia's Glenn Maxwell went berserk in front of the home crowd and tennis legend Novak Djokovic at Docklands Stadium as he smashed 10 sixes in his 90-run knock against Melbourne Renegades. In the Melbourne derby, Stars' batters could not shine barring Maxwell could not shine and contributed to the collapse.
When Stars lost seven wickets for 75 runs in the 11th over, Maxwell was batting on 10 runs from eight balls. In the 12th over, Maxwell smashed Kane Richardson for a six over deep point. He wanted most of the strike and then hit Tom Rogers for a massive six over long-off. He continued to clear the boundaries and kept the strike from Usama Mir. In the 16th over, he reached his fifty from 37 balls.
Richardson came back to the attack and Maxwell hit him for a four and two sixes. One of the sixes was as big as 122 metre over deep midwicket. In the 18th over, Maxwell continued the onslaught and hit Will Sutherland for a hat-trick of sixes followed by a four.
In the penultimate over, Mir fell to England's left-arm spinner Jacob Bethell. On the first ball of the final over, Richardson had the last laugh as Maxwell dragged the ball on to his stumps. He missed his century and departed after scoring 90 runs from 52 balls including four fours and 10 sixes. In the end Stars were bowled out for 165.
For Renegades, Fergus O Neil was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets for 16 runs from his quota of four overs. Rogers, Adam Zampa and Richardson claimed a couple of wickets each as well.
