Australia’s white-ball captain Mitchell Marsh continued his purple patch in the Men's Hundred 2026 competition. For Sunrisers Leeds, he scored his fourth fifty in the ongoing competition and ended up becoming first Australian batter to score 1,500 or more T20 runs in a calendar year. Marsh's fifty featured in Sunrisers Leeds' total for 201/4. THey beat Welsh Fire by 71 runs.
In the calendar year, Marsh has presented Australia in T20Is, Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 and Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred 2026.
Marsh goes past David, Head
Marsh broke Tim David's record. In 2022, he had scored 1,461 runs from 68 innings at an average of 27.67 and strike rate of 170.67. He is closely followed by Australian opener Travis Head with 1,442 runs from 39 games, averaging 41.2 and striking at 182.07. Marsh has already scored 1,502 runs from 35 games in 2026 at an average of 44.17 and strike rate of nearly 160. He has two centuries and 11 fifties in this period.
Can Marsh break the all-time record?
There is plenty of T20 action remaining in the year. Currently, the record for most T20 runs in a calendar year belongs to former West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran. He had scored 2,331 runs from 74 innings at an average of 40.89 and a strike rate of 157.39, including a ton and 15 fifties. Marsh would need 830 more runs this year to dethrone Pooran.
In 2026, other batters with 1,000 or more runs are Ishan Kishan (1,414 runs), Finn Allen (1,413 runs), Ryan Rickelton (1,319 runs), Jos Buttler (1,295 runs), Tim Seifert (1,192 runs), Sahibzada Farhan (1,149 runs), Steve Smith (1,078 runs), Abhishek Sharma (1,077 runs), Kusal Mendis (1,039 runs) and Tristan Stubbs (1,033 runs).
Marsh to break all-time The Hundred record?
Marsh needs 51 more runs to break the record for most runs in a single edition of the Men's Hundred. He is currently fourth on the list. The top spot belongs to James Vince with 424 runs in 2024, followed by Buttler (391 runs) in 2023, and Dawid Malan (377 runs) in 2022.
The Australian has scored 374 runs from seven innings this season, averaging 53.42 and strike rate of 173.14.
When will Marsh be in action again?
Sunrisers Leeds are closing in on the qualifiers spot. They are placed second on the points table. Marsh will be seen in action against Manchester Super Giants at Emirates Old Trafford on August 11.
