Rohit Sharma has hinted that his ODI journey is far from over. The Indian batter has said he still has unfinished business in the Cricket World Cup and is looking ahead to the 2027 tournament. The former Indian captain has set his sights on the upcoming ODI major as he and Virat Kohli are the two keys to India’s chances in what will be their last appearance at the 50-over showpiece event.
While Kohli has already confirmed that the 2027 edition will be his last World Cup, Sharma believes he has some unfinished business and the job is not done yet. Amid the retirement talk, Sharma has ruled out any chances of hanging up his boots so far.

Speaking to JioStar ahead of India’s three-match ODI series against the West Indies, the 39-year-old made clear he does not consider his ambitions complete. He said:
“The thought will never cross my mind that the business I had is finished.”
Sharma added:
“As long as you’re playing, there is always something to look forward to. And I’m looking forward to the World Cup, looking at what lies ahead for me.”
Sharma added that ICC tournaments bring unique challenges because of the different opponents and venues, requiring fresh preparation and thinking. Sharma has stepped away from Test and T20I cricket but continues to represent India in the 50-over format. The next ODI World Cup is scheduled for October–November 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The comments come after Sharma captained India to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, where they finished runners-up, and led the side to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Sharma is one of the format’s greatest batters and is motivated to finish the business he is looking for.
