Rohit Sharma has opened up about his long-standing partnership with Virat Kohli, affectionately dubbed “Ro-Ko” by fans and media. Sharma revealed that the pair often share a quiet laugh when the nickname lights up television screens.
The 2027 ODI World Cup will include both superstars. While Kohli has already announced that it will be his last World Cup, Rohit hinted that he is far from retirement and will observe what the edition brings to him. Both players stated that they have some unfinished business to settle at the World Cup.

While they prepare for the World Cup, the two players had a conversation about the popular moniker given to them by the fans and the media. Speaking during India’s ongoing ODI series against the West Indies, Sharma said the moniker first gained traction around their Australia tours. He said during a conversation with JioHotstar:
“We look at each other and laugh watching the Ro-Ko story play out on TV.”
Sharma added:
“Which is good, it’s fun. People want masala, so there you go.”
The two veterans, who made their international debuts just a year apart, Rohit in 2007 and Kohli in 2008, have shared countless dressing-room moments, leadership responsibilities and major triumphs, including the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
The former captain also credited Kohli with transforming his own Test career by promoting him to opener. In the bigger picture, Sharma downplayed any need for special conversations about the 2027 ODI World Cup, which Kohli has indicated will be his final one.

Earlier, Kohli had also talked about the popular moniker and had told the same source that it sounds ‘nice’ to him. The Indian batter stated that he is aware that the audience is having a lot of fun with it. Meanwhile, Kohli and Rohit both remain the highest active run scorers in the ODI format. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon recently reached the 15,000-run milestone, after which he became only the second man after Sachin Tendulkar to record that many runs.
