India's star batter Shreyas Iyer has come under scrutiny for his below-par batting performance in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament match against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI. The match is being held at the Sri Ramakrishna College Cricket Ground.

Shreyas Iyer’s short-ball woes continue in Buchi Babu tournament

Representing Mumbai in the Buchi Babu tournament, Iyer struggled to find his rhythm in the first innings. However, his dismissal in the second innings drew particular attention. Iyer's weakness against short-ball deliveries was exposed once again as he was dismissed by a bouncer. He attempted a pull shot but was caught inside the circle, adding to his recent struggles. Iyer's contribution to Mumbai's innings was limited to just 22 runs, placing his team under pressure.

Despite playing in various formats, Iyer has consistently struggled to counter the short-ball, often falling victim to similar dismissals. His inability to effectively tackle this delivery has been a significant contributing factor to his batting blip.

The Buchi Babu tournament holds immense importance for Shreyas Iyer as he aims to make a comeback to the Indian Test team. Iyer was a crucial member of the Test side, replacing Ajinkya Rahane and making a significant impact. His performance in this tournament will be closely watched as he seeks to regain his place in the Test squad.

Shreyas Iyer's track record in Test

Iyer made a memorable debut in Test cricket, scoring a century in his first match. He continued to contribute significantly to the team's success, bailing them out of difficult situations on several occasions. However, Iyer's form began to fluctuate, leading to his eventual exclusion from the Test squad.

Following a series of low scores in the two Tests against England, Iyer was dropped from the team. His scores of 35, 13, 27, and 29 in those matches highlighted his struggles in overseas conditions. Overall, Iyer has amassed 811 runs in 14 Test matches, averaging 38.86. His record includes one century and five half-centuries. His recent performance against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI, however, may further complicate his efforts to regain a place in the Test team. With the Duleep Trophy 2024 approaching, Iyer is eager to make a strong impression. As the captain of Team D, he will have the opportunity to lead his team to victory and potentially earn a recall to the Indian Test squad.
