Starc takes 10, Bangladesh bowled out for 95 as Australia win 2nd Test by an innings and 51 runs

Bangladesh were bowled out for 95 in just little over a session on Day 2 of the second Test as Australia registered a win by an innings and 51 runs at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay. Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam's record-breaking seven-wicket haul went in vain. Bangladesh suffered another batting collapse, not building on the historic win in the first Test of the series. After a six-wicket haul in the first innings, Mitchell Starc bagged four in the second innings to make it a 10-wicket match haul.

Starc got support from skipper Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon claiming three wickets each, leading to the Test ending in just five sessions and three deliveries.

Shoriful’s historic 7-fer

Earlier, starting the Day 2 at 165/8, the hosts lost the wicket of Cameron Green early. Shoriful dismissed Green lbw to completed seven-wicket haul. He scored 67 runs from 105 balls, including 10 fours. Shoriful became the first visiting left-arm pacer in 143 years to take a seven-fer on Australian soil.

Lyon entertained the crowd with a six and a four off Taskin Ahmed. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam ended Australia's first innings with Josh Hazlewood's wicket. Australia were bowled out for 210, taking a 146-run lead.

Starc strikes early again

In his second over, Starc was on a hat-trick yet again in the series. He got Shadman Islam caught by Marnus Labuschagne and then knocked over Mominul Haque. As first change bowler, Cummins got the wicket of opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto showed the intent to score. At the end of fist session, Bangladesh were 39/3.

No support from Mushfiqur, big loss for Bangladesh

Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim were looking to block it out. But Lyon invited Shanto to hit him over long-off. Shanto ended up getting caught by Starc. He scored 31 runs from 46 balls. Litton Das failed to get off the mark once again and got caught for a 10-ball duck off Starc's bowling. Then, Cummins bowled a short one to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, getting him out caught behind. In the next over, he got Hasan Mahmud out with a short one as well.

Starc completed his 10-wicket haul in the match by knocking Taijul over. Taskin hit Lyon for the only six of the innings. Bangladesh were 95/8 heading into the tea break. In the third session, Lyon took just three deliveries to dismiss Taskin and Shoriful out, bowling out visitors for 95 in 38.3 overs.

Bangladesh lost by an innings and 51 runs. The Test series ended in a 1-1 draw. Starc was adjudged 'Player of the match' and 'Player of the series'.
