Tabraiz Shamsi of the Adelaide Strikers celebrates the wicket of Mitch Marsh of Perth Scorchers during the BBL match at Optus Stadium, on January 04, 2026.

Story Highlights:

Tabraiz Shamsi faced 22 balls, most by a no.11 batter in BBL.

Melbourne Renegades were bowled out for 83 in 19.3 overs.

South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi did his best to prevent Adelaide Strikers from getting bundled out in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 clash. Strikers got bowled out for 83 with three balls left in the innings but Shamsi remained unbeaten for eight runs from 22 balls. He equalled the record for most deliveries faced by a no.11 batter in BBL history. In 2018, Afghanistan's Mujeeb Ur Rahman faced 22 balls to score 27 runs for Brisbane Heat against Adelaide Strikers.

The overall, T20 record for most balls faced by a no.11 batter belongs to Panama's Nikunj Hir. In 2021, he faced 38 balls to score 20 runs against Argentina.

Shamsi walked in to bat in the 14th over of the innings when Adelaide Strikers were 55/9. Cameron Boyce and Shamsi shared a 28-run partnership from 35 deliveries. Boyce scored 20 runs from 18 balls, including a four and a six. Boyce was dismissed by Melbourne Stars skipper Marcus Stoinis in the final over. 83 is Renegades' fourth-lowest score in BBL history.

Strikers batters fail to steady the ship

Earlier, Stoinis won the toss and opted to bowl first at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Tom Curran drew first blood with the wicket of Alex Carey. Curran continued to push Strikers on back foot. He dismissed Chris Lynn lbw. Then, Peter Siddle joined the party, getting the wicket of Matthew Short. Curran continued to strike. The English pacer got rid of an out-of-form Jason Sangha. After a few overs, Curran returned to send Liam Scott back to the dugout. Scott scored 18 runs from 20 balls.

The wickets continued to fall. Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson struck twice to dismiss Jamie Overton and Hasan Ali. Harry Manenti hit the first six of the innings off Haris Rauf. Stoinis bowled a wicket-maiden, trapping Manenti in front of the wickets. Then, Swepson dismissed Lloyd Pope for a five-ball duck.
