India’s 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making crowd flock to the ground in an Under-19 game. Having watched him hit bigwigs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the fans were not left disappointed as Suryavanshi launched a scathing attack against Australia A in the second Youth ODI at Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane on September 24. In doing so, he broke the record for most sixes by an Indian in Under-19 cricket (One-Day).
The previous record belonged to India's Under-19 World Cup 2012-winning captain Unmukt Chand with 38 sixes from 21 balls. India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson are next on the list with 30 and 22 sixes respectively.
With sixes in his 70-run knock, the southpaw now has 41 sixes from 10 appearances. He hits a six per 13 balls he faces (approximately) in One-Day cricket.
Suryavanshi’s slow start, rapid acceleration
After a 33-run cameo in the previous game, Suryavanshi started slow as his opening partner and captain Ayush Mhatre departed for a two-ball duck. Suryavanshi hit his first four in the fourth over. At one point, he was batting on 10 runs from 29 deliveries.
