Vaibhav Suryavanshi to reportedly undergo BCCI's specialized training program

Suryavanshi is likely to feature for India A in the multi-format series against Australia A

With rumours circulating around Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's exit from the ODI format, BCCI have started preparing the next generation of players, who will end up receiving the baton from the greats. One of these players is 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has risen to immense popularity through his batting performances in IPL 2025 and for India A.

According to a report by MyKhel, Suryavanshi is set to undergo a specialized training program at BCCI's Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. This comes ahead of India A's Test and ODI assignments against Australia A which will begin in September. The 2-match unofficial Test series will be held in Lucknow and will commence from September 16 while the 3-match ODI series will be held in Kanpur and will begin from September 30.

The report also stated that Suryavanshi had attended a training session with IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals before leaving for the COE where a special programme had been designed in order to train him. This once again shows how the BCCI considers Suryavanshi as one of the biggest talents from the next generation.

Suryavanshi's childhood coach Manish Ojha stated that the BCCI is already preparing the next batch of talents as many senior players are retiring and added that the specialized program will massively help the 14-year-old with his performances in white-ball formats.

“BCCI is looking ahead. The senior players are gradually retiring, and to fill that vacuum, the next batch of youngsters must be fully ready. This training for Vaibhav is part of that process. We pick boys one by one and prepare them accordingly for the demands of international cricket," Ojha was quoted as saying.

“He (Suryavanshi) has the ability to attack from the very first ball, which is a huge positive in T20s and one-dayers. You’ve seen it in the IPL, U-19, and Vijay Hazare. But in longer formats, the performance level drops compared to white-ball cricket. The goal is to bring that consistency up. If he plays 10 innings, 7-8 should be impactful," he added.

Suryavanshi's rapid rise to prominence

Meanwhile, Suryavanshi had first made headlines during his IPL 2025 campaign with Rajasthan Royals where he scored an incredible 35-ball century and became the youngest ever player to record a triple-digit score in the league's history. He continued this terrific form in India A's 5-match ODI series against the England Lions, finishing as the top-scorer of the assignment with 355 runs under his belt and a strike-rate of 174.02.
