In a series of big news, Sri Lanka Cricket have taken serious steps against the players who were involved in the heated physical altercation with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the clash between Sri Lanka A and India A on Monday, June 15 in Dambulla.
Big step from Sri Lanka Cricket
According to a latest report by Cricbuzz, match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash has slapped sanctions on the players, with Vishen Halambage being the central figure among the recipients of the punishment.
Notably, a fine was imposed on Niroshan Dickwella as well, who turned out to be the peace-maker in the face-off between Halambage and Sooryavanshi. However, it has been claimed that the sanction Dickwell was imposed for a separate offence has no relation with the altercation. Interestingly, the exact type of breach committed by Dickwella has not been clarified.
Sanctions on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi?
There is uncertainty over whether Sooryavanshi has also been sanctioned for his involvement in the clash with Halambage. The 15-year-old batter was spotted engaging in a fight following Sri Lanka A's narrow win over India A in the Super Over.
Underwhelming show from vaibhav Sooryavanshi
After enjoying a blockbuster individual campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, everyone expected that Sooryavanshi would continue the same form in the Tri-Nation A Series. However, things has been exactly opposite so far in the ongoing tri-series, as the 15-year-old batter has endured a silent campaign so far.
It would be wrong to say that he has struggled, as he has got a fiery start in all the three games, but has failed to convert those into big scores. The star-left handed opener has managed to amass only 79 runs in three innings, which does not justify his actual potential.
His best score of 44 off 22 balls came in India A's clash against Afghanistan A, where he smashed nine boundaries but failed to missed his well deserved half-century by just six runs.
