Despite having a dismal day with the ball, Oval Invincibles all-rounder Rashid Khan made sure to entertain the crowd in attendance with an outrageous shot in a clash against the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred. The 26-year-old played an impactful cameo of 16 runs from 9 deliveries which included two maximums and helped the Invincibles in getting to a total of 180/8 after 100 deliveries.
One of these shots was Rashid's trademark 'snake shot' which he played on the 90th delivery of the innings. He played it against former New Zealand seamer Tim Southee, who ended up going for a wide yorker only for Rashid to shuffle across and hit the ball for a six over deep square-leg. The video of the shot is now making roundfs on social media.
The Afghanistan all-rounder had himself named this shot after he had unleashed it for the first time in IPL 2022. Rashid has several unorthodox shots in his locker, but this one is definitely among the most impressive that he has ever played.
“I call it the Snake Shot. When a snake bites someone it springs back. When the ball is too full, I can’t finish the shot completely. My body position doesn’t allow me to finish the shot. If I try to do that, I can’t generate the power. So I have worked on it a lot and strengthened my wrists for it," Rashid said during IPL 2022.
Rashid was quite poor in the bowling department
Meanwhile, it was quite a poor day at the office for Rashid with the ball as he ended up giving away 59 runs in his 20-ball spell and also failed to pick up any wickets. Notably, this is the most expensive spell in the history of The Hundred. Liam Livingstone was the one who especially dominated against the spinner and even hit him for 26 runs in his 5-ball over.
The England batter was the star of the show for the Birmingham Phoenix as his fiery knock of 69 runs from just 27 deliveries was the catalyst to their 4-wicket victory. Will Smeed also contributed well for the side with the bat and played a valiant inning of 51 runs.
