Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar gifted a bat-shaped guitar to India women's cricket team star Jemimah Rodrigues and fulfilled his promise after Harmanpreet-led side won the ODI World Cup in 2025. In the exclusive chat with Sports Tak, Gavaskar promised that he will sing a duet with Jemimah if India Women's team won the World Cup.
After Gavaskar's promise, Harmanpreet-led side defeated South Africa in the title decider at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to win the maiden title.
Gavaskar's promise to Gavaskar
Jemimah kept the light-hearted promise going in her own playful way. Speaking at the Agenda AajTak conclave in December 2025, the Indian batter recalled Sunil Gavaskar’s assurance and even showed her singing skills on stage, which earned her a big round of applause. Smiling, she said she was still waiting for “Sunil sir” to keep his promise.

Jemimah took to her Instagram to share a clip where she can be seen singing a duet alongside Sunil Gavaskar. The clip went viral on social media. Here is the video.
When Jemimah jokingly asked if the bat-shaped guitar was meant for playing music or batting, Gavaskar replied that she could do both. He added that her batting has a natural elegance and rhythm, much like a musician performing at their best.
Jemimah's performance in ODI World Cup 2025
In the Women’s Cricket World Cup, Jemimah delivered one of the most memorable performances of the marquee event. She scored a superb 127 not out in the semi-final against Australia, guiding India to a record chase of 339 runs. It was the highest successful run chase ever in a Women’s World Cup knockout match and helped India reach the final. It was after this special innings that Sunil Gavaskar promised to jam with her.
Jemimah's upcoming performance
With the international season now over, Jemimah has turned her attention to the Women’s Premier League, which began on Friday with Royal Challengers Bengaluru beating Mumbai Indians. Delhi Capitals have named her captain, trusting her to lead the team after being a key part of their batting line-up for several seasons.
