Ashish Nehra has a very clear answer on whether he will ever coach the Indian National Cricket Team. The Gujarat Titans head coach stated that he has no current ambition to take charge of the team, though he would regard the opportunity as a great honour if it ever arose.

Speaking at the Cricket Association of Bengal’s annual awards ceremony in Kolkata, the former India pacer was asked about the possibility of coaching the national side. He said:
“Yes, it will be a great honour and a privilege, but I never plan things like that. We’ll see in the future. No, no ambition. I’m very happy where I am.”
Nehra went on to say that in case he gets an offer to coach the national team in the future, he will ask his wife due to the demanding schedule it requires and “eight to nine months of travel.” He also said something similar about international coaching as it requires a lot of travel and challenges. His comments come amid ongoing discussion about future leadership of the Indian team, but the 47-year-old made clear his focus remains with GT for now.
Nehra has built a strong reputation in the IPL since taking over as Gujarat Titans head coach. He guided the franchise to the title in their debut season in 2022 and reached the final again the following year. A member of India’s squad that finished runners-up in the 2003 ODI World Cup, Nehra has transitioned successfully from playing to coaching.
