Shubman Gill had faced a blow in the nets on Friday, and that raised concerns about his availability for tomorrow’s first ODI against West Indies. Meanwhile, the coach has provided a bug update on whether he will play the match.
The India captain has been declared fit for the opening One-Day International on Sunday, despite suffering a blow to the elbow. Gill was struck on the right elbow by a delivery from teammate Mohammed Siraj while batting in the nets in Thiruvananthapuram.
Gill left the session in visible discomfort and received treatment, including ice and strapping, but did not return to bat. He was seen dropping his bat, as per reports, and walked away in pain before he received treatment from team physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain.

Meanwhile, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has confirmed the positive update that he is fit enough to play. He said:
“Gill is fine. He’s good to go.”
The first ODI of the West Indies tour of India 2026/27 series is scheduled for 27 September at the Greenfield International Stadium. Gill is expected to lead a strong Indian side that includes experienced players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
