India's star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is officially set to rejoin the Mumbai squad for their upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Goa on December 31. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar confirmed the development, who noted that Jaiswal is expected to link up with his teammates in Jaipur by either the evening of the 29th or the morning of the 30th.

Jaiswal’s return comes after a brief health scare that sidelined him for Mumbai's first two fixtures of the tournament. Earlier this month, the youngster was hospitalised with severe stomach cramps following a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Rajasthan. Medical tests confirmed he was suffering from acute gastroenteritis, leading doctors to prescribe a mandatory week of rest to ensure a full recovery.

His comeback marks a significant transition for the Mumbai top order. Veteran star Rohit Sharma handled opening duties during the team's first two games, but Jaiswal is now slated to take over that role starting with the New Year's Eve clash at the Anantam Ground. His return provides a major boost to the defending champions as they look to maintain their momentum in the prestigious domestic 50-over competition.

Will Yashasvi Jaiswal be selected in India's ODI squad for NZ series?

Jaiswal is expected to be a key fixture in Mumbai’s lineup for the remainder of the tournament, though his stint may be cut short by international commitments. His continued participation hinges on the upcoming squad selection for India’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin in Vadodara on January 11. Given his recent form, he is widely anticipated to be named in the national side.

The young opener’s stock is at an all-time high following a brilliant performance against South Africa, where he hammered an unbeaten 116 in the series decider at Visakhapatnam. That maiden ODI century paved the way for a dominant nine-wicket victory for India. When the New Zealand series kicks off, Jaiswal is expected to resume his highly effective opening partnership with former captain Rohit Sharma.

At the domestic level, the Mumbai squad, captained by seam-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, has enjoyed a flawless start to the 2025/26 season. They kicked off their campaign in Elite Group C with a convincing eight-wicket win over Sikkim, followed by a solid 51-run victory against Uttarakhand. The team will look to maintain their winning streak in their third-round clash against Chhattisgarh this Monday at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground.
