After a long wait of 16 years, Spain have reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup. After claiming a 2-1 win over Belgium in their quarterfinal clash on Saturday, July 10 at the Los Angeles Stadium, the Spanish national team have booked their berth in the semis, where they will meet France. Ahead of the big clash, Spain's rising young winger, Lamine Yamal, has issued a warning that France should fear La Roja, as they have an upper hand over them based on their recent meetings.
France should fear Spain?
Spain booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinals after super sub Mikel Merino once again turned out to be the point of difference, as he scored the winning goal against Belgium. Earlier, midfielder Fabian Ruiz had handed La Roja the lead before Charles De Ketelaere scored an equaliser for Belgium. After the dramatic win, star Barcelona winger Yamal made it clear that Spain would not change their mindset in their semifinal clash against France.
"If France should fear anyone, it's us," said Lamine Yamal after the game.
"We have knocked them out [before]. We have beat them two times [from Euro 2024 and the 2024-25 Nations League]. Honestly, I think we're the two best teams at the World Cup, so we'll see what happens, but we do not have any fear," added Yamal.
How did Yamal perform against Belgium?
The 18-year-old winger received the Player of the Match award for his sensational performance in the quarterfinal clash against Belgium. Despite not recording a single goal and assist, Yamal managed to register most number of touches in the box (12) and most number of shots in the game (6). He was a constant threat for the Belgian defense, as he was a regular visitor at their penalty area in the game which paved the way for the first goal.
