Mourinho is personally intervening in negotiations over a new deal for Vinicius Junior, according to reports, as Real Madrid seek to secure the Brazilian’s long-term future.
The Portuguese coach, who returned to the Santiago Bernabéu as head coach in June 2026 on a three-year contract, has been actively encouraging the forward to remain at the club. Sources indicate Mourinho, the former Chelsea boss, has spoken directly to both the club hierarchy and Vinicius himself, outlining his vision for the player’s central role in the team’s project.
The Spanish club is understood to be confident of reaching an agreement. The club has recently improved its offer after months of stalled talks, with discussions progressing positively in meetings involving senior executives.
Vinicius’s current contract runs until June 2027, and failure to renew could leave the door open for a departure, with the Gunners among the clubs previously linked with interest. Vinicius returned to pre-season training this week following Brazil’s World Cup campaign.
