After labelling it as the "Biggest fight in UFC history", famed UFC commentator Joe Rogan has paid further heed to the potential heavyweight match-up between champion Jon Jones and the division's interim title holder Tom Aspinall. According to Rogan, UFC might have to splurge heavily in order to make the fight happen and have to comply with demands of Jones. Bones recently made his much-anticipated return at UFC 309, where he convincingly defeated veteran Stipe Miocic and left the fans ruminating about the exceptional fighting prowess he still possesses.
Joe Rogan Hopes UFC Will Pay Jon Jones the Money He Wants
Joe Rogan weighed in on the rumored sum that Jon Jones wants to get on board with the fight and stated that the undefeated fighter wants as many as $30 million. Rogan, via his podcast, concluded by stating that he hopes UFC will pay the champion the amount he wants.
I think they are trying to come to some sort of an agreement. The rumor is that he wants $30 million that the UFC is going to pay, hopefully. I hope they [UFC] pay it.
After beating Miocic, Jon Jones made it clear that he would be open to squaring off against Tom Aspinall, but it would be up to UFC on how badly they want the fight to happen. Having achieved almost everything inside the 8-sided ring, Jones does not feel obligated to fight anymore and would only return if he gets paid the money he wants.
If I give [Aspinall] the opportunity to fight me, I want to be well compensated. I want that '(expletive)-you money, honestly. Otherwise, my life is perfect. I don't need him, but he needs me.
Tom Aspinall Sees Openings in Jon Jones' Game
Tom Aspinall, who was in attendance at the Madison Square Garden at UFC 309, witnessed the flawless performance of his potential opponent and stated that he does see "openings" in Jon Jones' game which could be exploited.
I definitely see openings. Whether I can do it or not, I don't know. But from the outside looking in, I think I can.
