Former Houston Texans defensive end J.J Watt has expressed his feelings about his brother, T.J Watt, surpassing his career sack tally. T.J. registered his 115th career sack during the Pittsburgh Steelers' defeat to the Chicago Bears last Sunday, beating J.J.'s 114.5.
J.J played 12 seasons in the NFL from 2011 to 2022, 10 of which he played with the Texans. It has taken T.J., Who is in his ninth season, less time to surpass his brother's record.
J.J featured on the Pat McAfee show on Wednesday, dropping his reaction to the big career achievement of his younger brother. He said:
“It turned out to be much cooler and more special than I thought it would. I’ve always said I’d be unbelievably proud of him whenever it happens, and I believe he’ll shatter every record I have, and I could not be happier for him. He works so hard. He’s done it at such an insanely high level for so long. He deserves it, and he’ll break everything I’ve got.”
The Steelers' pass rusher sacked Caleb Williams in the end zone. He forced a fumble, which his side recovered for a touchdown to take the lead in the first half.
J.J. Watt and T.J. Watt's NFL careers
J.J. Watt's iconic career saw him becoming the Defensive Player of the Year three times. The Texans icon was also named First-Team All-Pro five times, registering double-digit sacks total in six seasons. He averaged 17.3 sacks per season from 2012 through 2015, topping the league in sacks in 2012 and 2015.
Following in his brother's footsteps, T.J Watt has one Defensive Player of the Year honor in his career. He has also made four First-Team All-Pro selections. The Wisconsin alum has finished six of his nine NFL seasons with double-digit sacks. He notably led the NFL in sacks in 2020, 2021, and 2023.
After his NFL career, J.J. jumped into the media, joining CBS Sports in 2022. After more than three years as an expert, he started announcing NFL games in 2025.
