Chiefs' Head Coach Andy Reid Announces Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce as Co-Captains for Playoff Phase
Having finished the regular season at the top of the table in the American Football Conference (AFC), the defending champions received a bye in the Wild Card round. It came as a huge impetus for Chiefs as key players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, along with the rest of the Chiefs' side received much-needed rest ahead of the postseason. Kansas have not played since Christmas Day garnering ample time to prepare for the next phase of the competition.
Before the much-anticipated game against the Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced the players who will serve as the team captains for the season's playoff run.
To no one's surprise, it is Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, who will shoulder the onus of captaincy in the playoffs. They will be joined by long snapper James Winchester, Kicker Harrison Butker, defensive tackle Chris Jones, and linebacker Nick Bolton.
"Chiefs Kingdom, introducing your Playoff Captains," Kansas City's social media team wrote.

Mahomes and Kelce: The Duo for the Ages
Modern-day greats Mahomes and Kelce are considered one of the best quarterback-tight end duos to have ever stepped inside the field. Over the course of their partnership, Patrick has won MVP awards and Travis has notched the mark of 1000 yards seven times. Together, they have taken the team to four Super Bowl appearances and own the record for the most touchdowns- 17- by any duo in NFL playoff history. Judging their performance, they will eventually be the first-ballot Hall of Famers.
Aside from complementing each other on the field, the two share mutual respect and friendship off the play zone. Supporting the statement is Mahomes' recent plaudits towards Kelce. A few days ago, the QB praised the TE's dedication and willingness to go the extra mile to carve out the win.
"I think he kind of has the heart of a champion," Mahomes said. "I think that inspires everybody, and so when your leaders and your Hall of Fame guys are doing that, I mean, I think everybody knows that they gotta put it all on the line."
Chiefs vs Texans is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
