Kelce is not retiring this season.

Travis Kelce is far from ready to hang up his cleats. The Kansas City Chiefs' legendary tight end has confirmed that he’ll be back for the 2025 NFL season—but he isn’t returning quietly. Instead, he’s making his stance clear: if the Chiefs want to keep their dynasty intact, the front office must make serious moves this offseason.

Speaking on the latest episode of his "New Heights" podcast with brother Jason Kelce, the veteran playmaker didn’t hold back when addressing Kansas City’s current roster situation.

“I mean, we gotta get some pieces,” Kelce stated. “I think 100%, this offseason, we’re stuck kind of trying to juggle some contract negotiations and losing some key pieces. That hurts. You know, we got a lot of guys that we rely on big time—guys we’ve relied on in the past that have helped us win Super Bowls—who are now in contract negotiations.”

Chiefs Face Roster Shake-Up Amid Key Departures
The skepticism of Kelce is not misplaced. Kansas City has already discarded one of the most reliable offensive linemen, trading away star guard Joe Thuney to the Bears for salary cap space. This seems to only be the beginning of a major roster overhaul.

The receiver corps is poised to lose key contributors like Marquise Brown, Mecole Hardman, and DeAndre Hopkins to free agency. Other defenders on the roster include linebacker Nick Bolton and safety Justin Reid, who are also now contemplating free agency. The uncertainty inherent in the departures begs the question: Will the Chiefs be able to reload in enough time to defend their Super Bowl crown?

Can Kansas City Keep Its Super Bowl Window Open?
Despite the looming changes, Kelce remains confident in the leadership of general manager Brett Veach and the Chiefs’ front office. He believes in their ability to make the necessary moves to keep the team competitive at the highest level.

“I know I’ve always trusted Brett Veach, the front office, and the coaches to bring in the right guys—not just guys with the skill set, the athleticism, and the competitive edge, but guys who do it in a fun way,” Kelce added.

The Chiefs still have options to reinforce their roster. With wide receivers like Christian Kirk and Tyler Lockett becoming available in free agency, and trade rumors swirling around DK Metcalf, Kansas City has avenues to bolster its offensive firepower. But the question remains: will they move swiftly enough to secure the talent needed to stay ahead in the ultra-competitive AFC?

 The Clock Is Ticking
As the countdown to the 2025 NFL season begins, all eyes are on head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs’ front office. Will they heed Kelce’s call and assemble another championship-caliber squad, or will his warning serve as a foreshadowing of a season filled with missed opportunities? The pressure is on, and the decisions made in the coming months could define Kansas City’s future.
