Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been playing through a torn ligament in his wrist, an injury he first sustained in August. Hill shared the details of the injury during an interview with ESPN's Lisa Salters on Monday, revealing that the pain had been exacerbated by an altercation with Miami-Dade Police officers in September.

Injury began in training camp, re-aggravated in September incident

Hill confirmed that the wrist injury originally occurred during a joint practice with the Washington Commanders in August when it was initially diagnosed as a thumb injury. He wore a brace on his right hand throughout training camp as he worked through the discomfort.

However, Hill noted that the injury worsened following an incident with Miami-Dade Police officers just before the Dolphins’ opening game of the season.

“It’s something that he’s really been dealing with all season long,” Salters explained on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown. Hill shared that he was taken to the ground by officers, which he believes caused further damage to his wrist. "That’s where the further damage was done," Hill told Salters, referring to the physical altercation during his detention by the police.

While Hill was detained and handcuffed during the September incident, he was never formally arrested. Video footage of the event showed Hill being forcibly removed from his car and twice slammed to the ground by officers. The altercation came hours before the Dolphins' Week 1 game in the National Football League (NFL).

Playing through the pain

Despite the injury, Hill has continued to play, with the MRI confirming a torn ligament in his wrist. When asked about the severity of the injury, Hill admitted that he was unsure of how to handle it, as he had never experienced a major injury before. “I just really don’t know what to do, because I’ve never really been injured before. I’m going to keep playing. Nothing’s going to stop me,” Hill said.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel had previously mentioned that Hill had not experienced any setbacks earlier in the season. However, the wrist injury has been a challenge in recent weeks.

Following a full practice session on Thursday, Hill sat out of practice on Friday and Saturday after his wrist “heated up,” according to McDaniel. Despite being listed as questionable for Miami’s Week 10 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Hill has remained active and will continue to play through the injury.

Hill’s determination and continued success

Despite the ongoing pain, Hill’s determination to play through the injury highlights his resilience and commitment to his team. The wide receiver has been one of the NFL’s most dynamic and productive players, and his ability to push through injury is a testament to his toughness.

As Hill battles through the injury, the Dolphins will continue to rely on his speed and playmaking ability as they look to maintain their strong season performance.
