Senga sent down after struggles

In one of the most talked-about moves, Kodai Senga has been optioned to AAA Syracuse. Once regarded as one of the Mets’ most reliable arms, Senga’s second half of the season has been far from ideal.

Earlier this year, he was one of the National League’s top pitchers, boasting a sparkling 1.47 ERA and a 7-3 record through June 12. However, a hamstring strain disrupted his momentum, continuing an unfortunate trend of injuries in his Major League career. Since returning to the mound on July 11, his performances have dipped significantly, posting a 4.73 ERA across 11 starts and an alarming 6.56 ERA in his last eight outings.

The demotion had been rumored for several days but required Kodai Senga’s approval. After finally agreeing, he now has the opportunity to regroup and reset his form in Syracuse.

New York Mets call up fresh arms

To fill the gap and reinforce their staff, the New York Mets promoted relief pitcher Wander Sudero. This move follows earlier call-ups of promising young talents Nolan McLean, Jonah Tong, and Brandon Sproat. With these additions, the Mets are placing heavy trust in their next generation of pitchers.

The strategy stems partly from missed opportunities in the offseason and trade window. After failing to land a marquee free agent, the team turned to Frankie Montas, a gamble that didn’t pay off. With limited trade options, team president David Stearns had no choice but to lean on the franchise’s top pitching prospects to keep postseason hopes alive.

A crucial reset for Kodai Senga

While Kodai Senga’s demotion may come as a shock, it’s far from the end of the road. His early-season brilliance proved he still has the tools to dominate at the highest level. If he can use this stint in Syracuse to regain confidence and control, he could yet return as a pivotal figure in October.
