Fernando Cruz suffered his shoulder injury on May 22nd.

This season, Cruz made 21 appearances for the New York Yankees.

Fernando Cruz might return next week against Cleveland Guardians.

The New York Yankees have been navigating through their own injury issues. Their veteran Fernando Cruz is the latest player to see his name on the injury list as he is suffering from a shoulder discomfort which he suffered on May 22nd.

What was the surgeon's update on Fernando Cruz?

Devin Williams has had a mixed first season with the Bronx Bombers as Cruz was more consistent from the bullpen. He had registered 2.66 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings.

In a conversation with New York Post Sports' Brandon London on 'Injury Report', Guillem Gonzalez-Lomas, a famous Sports Orthopedic Surgeon for NYU Langone's Sports Medicine Center gave an update on Cruz's recovery.

Fernando Cruz was already facing issues with his shoulder before being put on the 15-day injured list. It was the correct decision taken by franchise, this is what Gonzalez-Lomas feels.

With Fernando Cruz, you always have to think about what could happen if you just try to gut it out and play through it, and that is not something you want to do with a pitcher. These guys are very refined athletes and if you overdo it, you can put them out for a long period. So, right call to let him rest, let it calm down, maybe give them a little medication.

Not just this, Lomas even shared the recovery plan for the pitcher as he is set to throw live BP on Saturday and is expected to make a return to the mound somewhere next week.

The Spectrum could be as short as just a few games, and sometimes it takes a few weeks. And again, you have to test them with at least as close to game intensity as you can. Once they pass that test, you can get them back on the mound.

Fernando Cruz frustrated after being put on the IL list

This season for the New York Yankees, Fernando Cruz made 21 appearances. He was already frustrated by his shoulder injury but he looked at the positive side of things.

I’m a little frustrated; it’s a little disappointing, Cruz said after he was placed on the IL. But I think it’s the best option for the team, for me to be able to be strong and ready for what’s coming.

It is expected that Fernando Cruz might be making his comeback when the New York Yankees take on Cleveland Guardians next week.
