The Dallas Mavericks have been struggling in the ongoing NBA 2025-26 season. The team is 3-8 this season and stands 14th in the Western Conference. Amid their troubles, it has been reported that franchise general manager, Nico Harrison, is set to exit the team.

According to two sources, they told CBS News Texas reported on Tuesday that the franchise owner, Patrick Dumont, will be meeting with Harrison on Tuesday morning, and he will be fired. However, the team has not yet released any official statement. Harrison has been with the team since June 2021, and the GM signed a multi-year contract with the team last April.

Even though the team added No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg in the 2025 NBA Draft, the team has failed to find a rhythm in the ongoing season. The franchise went through a blockbuster trade mid-season, which took the basketball world by storm when they traded their superstar Luka Doncic. The Slovenian was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis in a three-team deal facilitated by the Utah Jazz in February. Doncic, at the time of his trade, had led the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals. He also made it to the five back-to-back All-NBA First Teams and All-Star appearances.

The ‘fire Nico’ chant has since become popular from anger from the Mavs fan base following the surprising trade. The injury-plagued Mavs have been missing Davis, who missed the early with lingering health issues, while Kyrie Irving has yet to return from an ACL tear.  On the other hand, Doncic has been carrying the Lakers alongside Austin Reaves, in the absence of superstar LeBron James, since the beginning of the season.
