Paige Bueckers has officially made her leap to the professional stage. The standout UConn guard was selected No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2025 WNBA Draft, marking a monumental moment in her basketball career. This comes just a week after leading the Huskies to a national championship to cap off her collegiate journey.
Head coach Chris Koclanes hailed Bueckers:
“This is not just a draft pick, it's a building block. Paige brings leadership, elite shot-making, and an understanding of the game you don’t teach. Pairing her with Arike gives us one of the most dynamic backcourts in the league.”

Negotiations amidst League Draft
Some believed Bueckers might postpone her WNBA debut amid ongoing CBA negotiations between the league and its players union. There were concerns about rookie salaries and talk of a potential player strike. One alternative would’ve been for Bueckers to play exclusively in Unrivaled, a rising 3x3 women’s basketball league.
But she chose to do both — stepping into the WNBA while also securing a three-year contract with Unrivaled that pays her more than the current rookie deal in the WNBA.
“I'm just extremely excited to be there,” Bueckers said moments after hearing her name called. “I've only heard great things about the city. So, (I'm) excited to start that new chapter and be in a new city and explore that, and give everything I have to the Wings organization. I know we're going to do great things, and it's a fresh start, and I think we're all ready to do something special.”
