Giannis Antetokounmpo was linked to the New York Knicks in the offseason but no trade took place. The latest trade rumors reveal that the Brooklyn Nets also tried to get the Milwaukee Bucks star last summer and almost made it happen.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's incomplete transfer to Brooklyn Nets
As per Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, a current player informed him that "The Greek Freak" nearly became a Nets player. The unnamed player previously played for the Nets and Bucks, so he has some connection to both teams.
Robinson claimed that Brooklyn is still interested in signing Antetokounmpo, but they might be better off making a move this coming offseason. However, with the way things are going, it would not be shocking if Milwaukee finally caves in and trades their biggest player ever to kick-off a much required transition.
Giannis' latest opinion regarding future should worry the Bucks
After the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, reporters questioned Giannis Antetokounmpo regarding the reports of teams stockpiling assets to go after him at the deadline or next season. Antetokounmpo had an interesting opinion about his future in Milwaukee afterwards.
"I can’t control that," Antetokounmpo said. "I can't control what other teams are doing. I just try to focus on my job, which is try and win games."
A reporter then followed up by questioning if he considers himself with the Bucks at the end of the season, as per Sports Illustrated.
"I take it day by day," the two-time MVP responded.
The two sides are waiting for each other to initiate the separation, with Antetokounmpo not wanting to damage his relationship with the city. On the other hand, the Bucks are not going to trade him unless he formally asks for it.
Giannis Antetokounmpo appreciates Jalen Johnson following win
After going toe-to-toe on Monday, Giannis Antetokounmpo had nothing but appreciation for Jalen Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks. Johnson is now the face of the team after Hawks traded Trae Young to the Washington Wizards earlier this month.
"I see greatness in him for sure," Antetokounmpo said, according to BasketNews. "I think he’s one of the best young talents in this league. He has a very high ceiling as long as he puts his head down, keeps working hard, listens to his coaching staff, and keeps improving to help his team win. I think he has a bright future."
Johnson, who is a Milwaukee native, has a chance to be named to his first All-Star game this year.
