Lakers To Pursue Pelicans Star

Having roped in Luka Doncic, in a trade deal that will be remembered for ages, the Lakers are not done yet and might make another historic deal by seeking New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson, according to Fansided’s Joseph Kallan. While the trade would improve their squad, Williamson's injury history makes it a dangerous proposition.

"Whenever a big-name player hits the trade block, the Lakers are always in the conversation," Kallan said. "This time, however, it’s not just speculation. The Los Angeles Lakers have already shocked the world by landing Luka Doncic, a move no one saw coming. If they were willing to shake up their roster for one superstar, why not go all-in on another?"

Austin Reaves or Rui Hachimura, among other assets, are likely to be included in a potential sale package. The Los Angeles Lakers would have to weigh Williamson's durability concerns with the benefits of gaining his explosive potential.

Adding Zion Williamson would form a dangerous Big Three with LeBron James and Luka Doncic. His ability to attack the rim and draw defensive attention would provide Doncic with additional perimeter possibilities, while LeBron's playmaking would let Williamson capitalize on his talents.

"Zion would be a perfect fit alongside LeBron James — a downhill force who can dominate in transition and put relentless pressure on the rim," Kallan noted. "A LeBron-Zion pairing would demand defensive collapses in the paint, opening up even more perimeter opportunities for Doncic."

However, sending Austin Reaves away, who has been a consistent scorer and facilitator, may reduce the Los Angeles Lakers' depth. Reaves has been established as a major contributor, and replacing him with an injury-prone star poses a significant risk.
