Lakers Have Set Their Sights On Hawks' Center
Clint Capela, who has in the past stood out as a defensive player of the year candidate and rebounding champion, comes as an appealing prospect in front of the Lakers.
Clint Capela, a 6-foot-10 giant, is well-known for his ability to rebound and finish at the hoop. In his current season, the 30-year-old has been averaging, 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game while shooting 55.9% from the field in just 21.4 minutes of action.
Clint Capela's most prolific season with the Hawks was in 2020-21, when he finished sixth in Defensive Player of the Year voting and led the league in rebounds (14.3 per game). However, he is best known for his stint with the Houston Rockets from 2014 to 2020, when he created a devastating pick-and-roll combo with James Harden. Capela's ability to finish alley-oops and dominate the paint made him a valuable member of Houston's offense.
The Los Angeles Lakers are interested in Capela because of his potential to complement their superstar combo. As Dean Simon of The Sporting News noted: "Capela was former MVP James Harden's main partner in the pick-and- roll game, which ended with the Swiss big man being the beneficiary of plenty of alley-oop dimes from the talented facilitator." This skill set would be ideal for playing with Luka Doncic and James, both of whom are exceptional playmakers capable of generating easy scoring opportunities for their teammates.
