The Philadelphia 76ers will reportedly have to play the season opener without Paul George as the nine-time NBA All-Star is still recovering from injury. Injuries have become an unfortunate overarching storyline for the team ahead of the upcoming season. The franchise is set to play against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday in the absence of their star player.
Paul George injury update: When will Philadelphia 76ers star return?
NBA senior journalist, Shams Charania has reported that he was told:
"I've been talking to people in Paul George's camp and I'm told that it is not expected that he will be suiting up for opening night.”
The ESPN journalist further reported:
“I am told, though, that he is making significant progress after having offseason arthroscopic knee surgery, and a return to debut should be shortly into the regular season.”
About his progress and return, the player took part in some five-on-five action in Thursday's practice and as per coach Nick Nurse, they are trying to “keep moving him in the right direction.” The coach has stated that they will have to wait for his return and asked to keep no hope for his availability for the opener.
George underwent surgery in mid of the July after he suffered an injury during a workout. Last season, George, a six-time member of the All-NBA Team, recorded 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.8 steals on average per game. He additionally shot 43 per cent from the field and 35.8 per cent from deep.
