In the wake of India's thrilling victory against Afghanistan in the second Super Over at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has shared insights on the challenges of team selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup. India's recent win in Bengaluru ensured a 3-0 clean sweep in the T20I series against Afghanistan, with Rohit playing a crucial role by scoring an impressive fifth T20I century and contributing significantly in both Super Overs.

During a post-match interview with Jio Cinema, Rohit delved into the complexities of assembling a team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He acknowledged the difficulty in satisfying everyone with selection decisions. Along with head coach Rahul Dravid, Rohit emphasises maintaining transparency and clear communication within the team regarding selection choices. The 2024 T20 World Cup, set to take place in the West Indies and the USA, will see India commence their campaign on June 5 against Ireland.

"We have not finalised the 15-member squad but there are 8-10 players in our minds. So we will make our combinations according to the conditions. In the West Indies, the conditions are slow, so we'll have to pick our team accordingly. As far as Rahul Dravid and I are concerned, we've tried to maintain clarity. We try to tell them why they've been selected or not been selected even after putting in performances," said Rohit.

Rohit, who has gained considerable experience as a captain, expressed that pleasing every individual is not always feasible, especially when focusing on the broader objectives of the team. His approach to team selection is firmly rooted in what is best for achieving the team's goals. India finds itself in Group A for the T20 World Cup, alongside Ireland, Pakistan, USA, and Canada.

"You can't keep everyone happy, that is what I've learnt in my time as captain. You can keep 15 players happy. Then also, only 11 are happy. The four players sitting on the bench also ask why they're not playing. I've learnt that you can't keep everyone happy, and the focus should be on the team's goal," Rohit added.

Following their successful run against Afghanistan, which extended their unbeaten streak in T20I cricket against the team to 6-0, the Indian squad is now setting its sights on the upcoming five-match Test series against England. This series, beginning on January 25, is another significant milestone for Rohit and his team as they continue to build their reputation as a formidable force in international cricket.
