Story Highlights:

Travis Head scored a blistering century against England at Adelaide Oval

Head remained unbeaten on 142 on Day 3

Australia batter Travis Head  continued his love affair with the Adelaide Oval and scored a phenomenal hundred at the venue against England in the third Ashes Test. This was his second ton of the ongoing series and it helped his team get into a commanding position on Day 3. It was nothing short of a terrific knock from the left-hand batter and it saw him join an elite list of Australian players.

The century was Head's 11th in Test cricket and it was also his fourth consecutive ton at the Adelaide Oval. He has become just the fourth Australian player and the fifth player overall to score four consecutive Test hundreds at a venue Down Under.

Players with 4 consecutive Test hundreds at an Australian venue -

  • Don Bradman (Australia) in Melbourne
  • Wally Hammond (England) in Sydney
  • Michael Clarke (Australia) in Adelaide
  • Steven Smith (Australia) in Melbourne
  • Travis Head (Australia) in Adelaide

Head's superb performance as an opener

Though Head generally used to bat in the middle-order in Tests, he has showed that he can be a fine opener as well in the ongoing series. After being promoted in the batting order due to Usman Khawaja's injury in the series opener, Head went on to hit a match-winning century as Australia outclassed England in Perth by 8 wickets. Though the 31-year-old didn't register any 50+ score in the second Test, he went on to deliver again in the third match and played another memorable knock.

Australia in firm control at Adelaide Oval

Head remained unbeaten on 142 while Alex Carey also remained unbeaten on 52 as Australia wrapped up the third day on a strong note. They have already amassed a lead of 356 runs and have ample of time to hand the Three Lions with a humongous target. The Baggy Greens have once again proved to be the better side so far in both the batting and bowling departments. A victory would mean that they retain the Ashes once again as they are already 2-0 up and another win would see them win the series with two games still left to spare.
