Virat Kohli’s revelation of a press conference after the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 clash against Pakistan on September 4 has hogged the limelight. Kohli answered to former players’ critics by saying that they should have talked to him directly instead of offering advice on TV. Two days later, Kohli has put out a cryptic Instagram story just hours before the must-win clash against Sri Lanka.
The story posted on Instagram read, “Notice the people who are happy for your happiness, and sad for your sadness. They're the ones who deserve special places in your heart.”
Before the Asia Cup 2022, there was criticism around Kohli’s batting in the T20I format. After a scratchy knock in India’s campaign opener against Pakistan, Kohli has hit two consecutive half-centuries.
After India’s last over loss to Pakistan, the 33-year-old addressed the media in the post-match press conference.
"When I left the Test captaincy, MS Dhoni was the only one among all the cricketers I had played with before who texted me. A lot of people have my number but he was the only one who texted me. It comes from the genuine respect that we have for each other. There is no insecurity from either end in our equation. These things matter. I live my life with honesty and these things matter for me. I just want to say this, if I have to tell someone about their game, I reach out individually. Even if I have to reach out to them, I do it personally," Kohli had said.
Kohli is currently India’s highest run-scorer in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 in United Arab Emirates (UAE). As Kohli’s comments led to controversy, former Indian cricketer Madan Lal said that they were unnecessary.
"Virat shouldn't have made such a comment at such a time. See you are playing important matches, in the middle of a tournament where you need to qualify for the final. It's great that you have returned to form. Even if someone calls or doesn't call, if you are in trouble you have to work on it. He should have said it a couple of months earlier as well. If you're not in the best of nicks, you have to approach it yourself. Ego shouldn't clash here," Lal told Sports Tak.
