Pakistan middle-order batter Agha Salman sustained a brutal blow to his face during the Asia Cup Super 4s clash against India on September 11 (Monday) at the R Premadasa Stadium. The incident transpired on the last ball of the 21st over bowled by left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja when Salman, who was not wearing a helmet, tried to paddle the ball toward fine-led but only managed a top edge. The ball went straight to Salman's face and there was a big cut under his right eye and nose.

The team doctors rushed to the ground as Salman was surrounded by Indian players, who checked on the Pakistani batter after the incident. After getting patched up, Salman decided to continue in the middle but his stay on the crease was short-lived. The right-handed batter went for another sweep shot, this time against Kuldeep Yadav, and was trapped in front of the wicket. Salman departed after scoring 23 runs off 32 balls with the help of two boundaries.

Pakistan were in all sorts of trouble when Salman walked back to the pavilion. The Men in Green were reduced to 96/5 after 24 overs.

Earlier, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored fabulous centuries that helped India post a mammoth total of 356/2 in 50 overs. Kohli notched up his 47th ton in ODI cricket while Rahul reached the three-figure mark in 50-over international cricket for the 6th time. The duo registered a historic 233-run alliance for the 3rd wicket as Pakistan bowlers had no answers to the Indian batters' class.

Kohli also went past 13,000 runs in ODI cricket and became the fastest player to reach the milestone. For only the second time against Pakistan, the top four Indian batters managed to score 50+ scores in ODIs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored a half-century each on September 10 (Sunday) before the rain sent the match into reserve day.
