Former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar has pointed out that Ishan Kishan has developed an effective batting approach in the No.3 position, yielding positive results for him.
Kishan has demonstrated his excellence in the initial two T20I matches against Australia, and his contributions have played a key role in India's triumph in the series.
In the inaugural T20I held in Visakhapatnam on November 23, 2023, Kishan played a crucial role in India achieving their largest successful T20I run chase against Australia. He swiftly scored 58 runs off just 39 balls, showcasing not only his ability to score rapidly but also his maturity and adaptability under pressure.

Despite encountering an entire maiden over from Jason Behrendorff, Kishan remained composed and later took advantage of a favourable matchup against leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha. His partnership with Suryakumar Yadav, stemming from their shared time at Mumbai Indians, proved crucial in setting up the successful chase. Together, they placed India in a commanding position to pursue the target of 209 runs.
In the second T20I, he maintained his impressive form by contributing a significant 52 runs. Teaming up with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, both of whom secured half-centuries, Kishan played a crucial role in helping India post a formidable total of 235-4 against Australia in Thiruvananthapuram on November 26. This collective effort contributed to India extending their series lead to 2-0 with a 44-run victory.
During an interview with JioCinema, Nayar said that Kishan has created a batting pattern by initially taking some time and then compensating for dot balls. The former cricketer believes the wicketkeeper is introducing flexibility in scoring runs, regardless of the batting position he is assigned.
“It's a completely different role for Ishan Kishan. You have seen him bat in the middle order, at No.4 and 5 for India. He is coming in at No.3 in T20Is, but there's a pattern that he has created in his batting that's bringing him success. He takes time initially, today as well, 17 off 19 deliveries. Then he takes off and manages to cover all those dot balls that he played initially. He is bringing in that flexibility as a wicketkeeper-batter to score runs wherever you send him to bat”, said Nayar.
