Mohammed Shami made history at the start of his Champions Trophy campaign. In men's one-day internationals (ODIs), the senior fast bowler set a new record for the fastest bowler to reach 200 wickets. In the game's 50-over format, Shami bowled more deliveries to reach 200 wickets more quickly than Mitchell Starc of Australia. Shami accomplished the feat on Thursday, February 20, during India's Group A match against Bangladesh in Dubai.
Shami's historic feat
To reach the milestone, Mohammed Shami took two more games than Mitchell Starc, although he had bowled fewer deliveries than the Australian sensation. In addition, Shami became the fastest Indian bowler to get 200 ODI wickets, surpassing Ajit Agarkar's record. In 2004, Agarkar reached the milestone after 133 games. By taking his third wicket of the innings and dismissing Jaker Ali, who had been batting with Towhid Hridoy for 154 runs, Shami reached the milestone. The milestone wicket was crucial as India snapped a partnership that was threatening to hurt them in the end overs of the contest.
The premium fast bowler now also holds the record for most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in ICC ODI events including the World Cups and Champions Trophy. He now has 60 wickets, which is one more than Zaheer Khan's 59. He has also become the second Indian to take a five-wicket haul in the Champions Trophy after Ravindra Jadeja. He broke Sachin Tendulkar's record for second-best bowling figure in the marquee event only behind Jadeja.

India managed to get five wickets inside the first five overs. After Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana combined to take the first three wickets, Axar's twin strikes reduced Bangladesh to 35 for five.
Later a 154-run partnership between Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali staged the comeback of the Bangladesh sideShami once again provided his team with a crucial breakthrough after dismissing Ali in the 43rd over. He returned to the dugout after scoring crucial 68 runs but his knock came from 114 balls with a strike rate of 59.65.
However, even after Ali's departure Hridoy continued to progress the scoreboard and completed his century. He became the fifth Bangladesh batter to hit a century in the Champions Trophy after Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Shahriar Nafees, and Mahmudullah. He is also the ninth batter to hit hundred on Champions Trophy debut.
Although India bowled out Bangladesh on 228 runs they would be happy with the score they have managed on the board. At one point, they were at 35/5 but what could have been a disastrous outing was turned around by Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali. Mohammed Shami picked up an astonishing fifer and was the star pick of all bowlers. Meanwhile, Harshit Rana took three and Axar Patel settled with one. India need to score 229 runs to win this match
