Yuzvendra Chahal on his County Championship debut got the perfect wicket for a leg-spinner. Chahal had to wait for a long time to get his maiden wicket on Day 2. He left Lyndon James stunned with an ideal leg-spinner pitching on the middle stump line and hitting the off-stump. Beaten on the front foot in an attempt to defend, James took some time before getting up to leave the crease as Chahal celebrated the wickets with his Kent teammates.

In his first spell, Chahal went wickless in the first nine overs. The wicket of James came in the 53rd over of Nottinghamshire’s innings. Later, Chahal ended Matthew Montgomery and Calvin Harrison’s resistance as well to push Nottinghamshire on the back foot.

Earlier, Kent opener Zak Crawley scored a commanding 158 from 153 balls to get his side off to a blazing start. With the help of D Bell-Drummond and skipper Jack Leaning's respective half-centuries Kent posted a total of 446 from 115.4 overs. Chahal got to bat at no.11 but his stay at the crease was short-lived. He got out caught behind to Ben Hutton for a two-ball duck.

Chahal is the fifth Indian cricketer to represent Kent in the County Championship. Kanwar Shumshere Singh was the first followed by current head coach Rahul Dravid, Navedeep Saini, and Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep played for Kent earlier this season.

The 33-year-old was recently dropped from the ODI squad and was not considered either for the ongoing Asia Cup or World Cup 2023. The leggie is in England to play three matches for Kent in the ongoing County Championship Division One 2023.
