West Indies team needed to score 30 runs in the final over to secure victory in the second T20I against England and Akeal Hosein scored 26 runs off final over. With the help of 2 extra runs the hosts managed to score 28 runs in the final over as the England cricket team pulled off a nail-biting finish to clinch 1-run victory against West Indies in the second T20I match on Sunday (January 23), that was played in Barbados, to level the three-match series 1-1.

Hossein scored 44 runs off 16 deliveries and remained not out but ultimately could not help his side in winning the second T20I of the series.

Batting first, the English team registered a formidable total of 171 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Opening batsman, Jason Roy played a fine knock of 45 runs off 31 balls to give a good start to his side’s batting. Roy’s innings was comprised of 6 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Solid start

Another opening batsman, Tom Banton gave a good support to Roy and scored 25 runs off 18 balls. But Banton was the first English batsman to be dismissed after West Indies bowler Fabian Allen sent him back to the dressing room in the sixth over of the innings.

Roy seemed set to score a half century but West Indies pacer Romario Shepherd dismissed him in the 13th over of the innings. A slower delivery produced by Shepherd did the trick as Roy was deceived totally and was caught by opponent skipper Kieron Pollard.

Moeen Ali later played a crucial innings of 31 runs off 24 balls and helped his side in averting the danger that was caused by James Vince’s (4 runs off 4 deliveries) early dismissal.

Chris Jordan’s (27 off 15 balls) courageous effort later in the innings helped the English team in reaching a total of 171 runs in 20 overs.

West Indies pacer Jason Holder and Allen picked up two wickets each.

In reply, the hosts got a terrible start after their opener Brandon King (0) was dismissed on the third delivery of the first over by Reece Topley. The other opener, wicketkeeper Shai Hope could not do much either as he was soon out scoring just 2 runs.

Nicholas Pooran (24 runs off 22 balls) and Darren Bravo (23 runs off 20 balls) had a solid partnership of 41 runs of 30 balls but English spinner Adil Rashid and Ali managed to dismiss both the batsman soon.

Later, Shepherd played a terrific knock of 44 runs off 28 balls and kept his side’s hopes of winning the game alive in the fixture but the hosts were eventually defeated by a single run.

All-rounder Ali was rewarded with the Man of the Match award for his batting and bowling (3/24) as well.
