After leaving Pakistan captaincy Babar Azam set to take legal action over leaked ' Whatsapp chat' with PCB official

Right after stepping down as Pakistan captain Babar Azam is set to take legal action over his leaked Whatsapp Chat with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official, repots GEO TV on Wednesday, November 15.

 

In middle of the World Cup 2023, a controversy around the leaked private chat between Babar and senior PCB official erupted last month after a ARY News aired it on live TV.

Hence Babar, after consulting his lawyer, will be taking a legal action against journalist Shoaib Jatt and ARY News over the WhatsApp chat leak.

 

There were rumours floating around that the private chats were aired on ARY news after the approval of PCB chief Zaka Ashraf.

 

Meanwhile, Waseem Badami, a Pakistani television news anchor, had acknowledged that ARY News leaked private WhatsApp conversations between former Pakistan cricket captain Babar and PCB COO Salman Naseer on national television. However, Badami asserted that the decision to broadcast the chats during a live television show was made following a video message from PCB chief Zaka Ashraf. 

 

Pakistan on Wednesday, November 15 relinquished the Pakistan's captaincy from all the three formats after team's dismal show in the World Cup 2023. Pakistan failed to make it to the semifinals as they faced an early ouster from the tournament.

 

Babar took to social media to announced his resignation. “I vividly remember the moment when I received the call from PCB to lead Pakistan in 2019,” Babar said in a statement released on his social media channels. Over the past four years, I've experienced many highs and lows on and off the field, but I wholeheartedly and passionately aimed to maintain Pakistan's pride and respect in the cricket world," Babar's post read.

 

“Reaching the number 1 spot in the white-ball format was a result of the collective efforts of players, coaches, and management, but I'd like to express my gratitude to passionate Pakistan cricket fans for their unwavering support during this journey. Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. It's a difficult decision but I feel it is a right time for this call," Babar's post added.

 

 

Notably, Pakistan lost five matches and won just four games in the group stage finishing fifth on the points table. Talking about Babar's lacklustre batting show, he could only score 320 runs in a total of nine innings as 74-run knock remained his best performance.
